Loom House featured in the May issue of Seattle Times Pacific NW Magazine

Spring Home Design: Loom House on Bainbridge Island weaves design and sustainability into a one-of-a-kind tapestry of connections.

“Loom House is the world’s first renovated home to achieveLiving Building Challenge (LBC) certification. “Living Buildings show apathway in the industry about what’s possible,” says architect Chris Hellstern, LBC services director of The Miller Hull Partnership, who workedwith his wife, interior designer Charlie Hellstern; Clark Construction Inc.;and others to update Karen Hust and Todd Vogel’s home on Bainbridge Island. “It’s no longer a question about whether, ‘This is some design standard that just can’t be met, or a level of sustainability we should be pursuing.’ It’s certainly possible, and it impacts not only home and building occupants, but the craftspeople who make the products, and it helps to address a variety of climate issues on a global scale, and locally, too. We know these buildings are possible.”
